Do highlights stay on the page?

Yes. Highlights you make with Marqly persist on the page: come back to the article next week and your highlights are still there, in the colors you picked, with any notes attached. Every highlight also syncs to your Marqly library, so you keep a copy of the passage even when you’re nowhere near the original page.

Two copies of every highlight

Persistence on the page and sync to the library solve two different problems:

• On the page — when you reread something, your past self’s markup is waiting in context. You see instantly what you thought mattered, exactly where it appears in the text.
• In your library — the highlighted passage lives with the rest of your saves. If the point of highlighting was to keep the idea, this copy is the one that makes it usable later without hunting down the URL.

Most web highlighting fails at one of these — a selection that vanishes on reload, or an export that strips the context. Marqly does both by default; there’s no extra “save highlight” step.

Highlights are searchable

Because highlights sync to your library, they’re covered by Marqly’s semantic search. Describe the idea in a passage you marked — even vaguely — and it comes back, along with the page it came from. The passages you deliberately marked are usually the highest-signal content in your entire library, and search treats them that way.
